From sky-rocketing gas prices to the potentially devastating consequences of global warming, more and more Americans are becoming aware of just how important energy issues are to all of our lives. In the Assembly, Mike Gianaris has been a leader: he's been a principal opponent of powerplant development in Western Queens; he's gone after polluters; he held Con Ed accountable after the devastating blackouts in Queens and he has advocated for increase fuel efficiency and the development of alternative energy sources.

Assemblyman Gianaris led the charge to close the Poletti power plant-one of the city's worst polluters. He formed the Queens Power Outage Task Force after the 2006 blackout-and led the charge to force Con Ed to increase their reimbursements to businesses and residents affected by the outage. In addition, Assemblyman Gianaris wrote landmark legislation, the Clean Energy Law, that requires power-plants to replace their outdated parts with cleaner, greener, and technology.
